Jerry Silverstein

Story

I met Shelly at another of the Dramatico sessions that I hosted in their Manhattan publishing office off of Columbus Circle. Shelly at the time was based in New Jersey though he writes all over the country and has relocated this year to a home he owns in Nashville. For a writer based on the East End of Long Island, Jersey might as well be California, and ironically California is where Shelly and I had our first writing session. We met north of LA and went to his cousin's beautiful home (we spotted a Kardashian inside the gates of their community), tossed around some hooks and wrote a fine song called "The Last Memory." Shelly is a digital producer as well as a singer songwriter, and he worked up a great demo punctuated with a soaring B2 organ. He's also the one who introduced me to writing on Skype, which has since become an incredibly effective way to collaborate while transcending the restrictions of time and space. I look forward to writing with Shelly in Nashville where he's already making inroads.

Story

This is the first song we wrote on a beautiful sunny afternoon in the hills of Calabasas. I brought the hook and Shelly and we just clicked, bouncing off each other and left with most of the song completed in one session. He then put together the arrangement and sent me the tracks to sing the vocal. It's a haunting song about the power of memory and young love and how some loves and relationships endure beyond all odds.
